Brief History

The History of CTU:

  • Established in October 1965: Chienkuo Commercial Junior College
  • Changed name in August 1974: Chienkuo Industrial Junior College
  • Changed name in November 1992: Chienkuo Industrial-and-Commercial Junior College
  • Restructured as an institute in August 1999: Chienkuo Institute of Technology
  • Changed name in August 2004: Chienkuo Technology University

 

October 1965
Chienkuo Commercial Junior College was founded. In the five-year junior college, five departments were established:businessmanagement, international trade, accounting, radio and television.
August 1968
TheDepartment of Business Management, two-year Practical Skill Division, was established.
January 1974
The board of trustees was reorganized. Mr. Lien-Hsing Wu, an entrepreneur in textile-machinery industry, took over as the chairman.
May 1974
Approved by Ministry of Education to change the name as “Chienkuo Industrial Junior College”. Four five-year departments were established: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Civil Engineering.

1982
Approved to establish night school fortwo-year program (the division of continuing education). Enrolled new students to the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

1983
Approved to set up Department of Electronic Engineering in night school.
August
1989
Approved to establish two-year day school. Enrolled new students in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering.
August
1990
Approved to found dept. of Mechanical Engineering (day school), and Dept. of Civil Engineering (day and night school).

1991
Approved to set up Dept. of industrial Engineering and Management, two-year day school.
August
1992
Approved to found commercial departments and enroll new students to Dept. of Information Management, as well as dept. of Dept. of Electrical Engineering (two-year day and night school.)

Approved to change name to Chienkuo Industrial-and-Commercial Junior College

1993
Approved to add Dept. of Information Management in night school.

1994
Approved to add Dept. of Industrial Engineering and Management, two-year night school.

1998
Approved to establish Dept. of Applied Foreign Languages, five-year day school.

1999
Approved by Ministry of Education to be restructured as “Chienkuo Institute of Technology” and enroll students of Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, and Dept. of Electronic Engineering, day and nigh school. Dept. of Applied Foreign Languages in the division of continuing education was also established. Besides, in two-year program, the students of Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Dept. of Electronic Engineering were enrolled by the approval of the establishment of two-year institute of continuing education.

2000
Approved to enroll the students of Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Dept. of Information Management in the institute of continuing education. Besides, we were approved to set up Department of Industrial Engineering & Management, Department of Information Management, and Department of Applied Foreign Languages in the Institute of Continuing Education.

2001
Approved to set up six departments in four-year day school: Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Dept. of Electrical Engineering, and Dept. of Electronic Engineering, Dept. of Industrial Engineering and Management, Dept. of Information Management and Dept. of International Business Administration. In Division of Continuing Education, part-time students in Dept. of Mechanical Engineering were enrolled. One class was set up in Dept. of Electrical Engineering, and Dept. of Electronic Engineering, Dept. of Industrial Engineering and Management and Dept. of International Business Administration respectively; two classes were set up in Dept. of Information Management. Besides, Dept. of Electronic Engineering was set in Institute of Continuing Education.

Approved to set up Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Dept. of Automation Engineering, and Dept. of Computer and Communication Engineering. Besides, Institute of Continuing Education set up Dept. of International Business Administration, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Dept. of Applied Foreign Languages and Dept. of Industrial Engineering and Management.

Approved to set up Dept. of Spatial Design and Dept. of Kinesiology Health Leisure Studies in four-year day school as well as Dept. of Commercial Design (two-year junior college and institute) and Dept. of Beauty Science (two-year junior college) in Division of Continuing Education. Dept. of Commercial Design (two-year junior college) was set up in Institute of Continuing Education.

2004
Approved by Ministry of Education to change the school name as “Chienkuo Technology University”. In Dept. of Beauty Science, four-year program in day school and two-year program in Division of Continuing Education were established.

2005
Approved to set up and enroll the graduate students in Dept. of Electronic Engineering. Besides, graduate program was also offered since 2006 and was named as Graduate Institute of Manufacturing Technology.

2007
Approved to set up and enroll the graduate students in Dept. of Electronic Engineering.
Approved to set up and enroll college students in Dept. of Digital Media Design in College of Design.
August 2008 Dept. of Civil Engineering in College of Design, was rescheduled to College of Engineering. At the same time, Dept. of Civil Engineering had been approved to set up Graduate Institute of Civil and Disaster Prevention Engineering.
August 2010 College of Humanities had been renamed College of Living Technology which included four departments--Dept. of Applied of Foreign Languages, Dept. of Beauty Science, and Dept. of Kinesiology.
August 2011 Approved to set up and enroll college students in Dept. of Tourism
August 2012 Approved to set up and enroll students in Graduate Institute of Creative Design and in Graduate Institute of Beauty Science Technology, which is the first graduate institute nationwide. In addition, Dept. of Marketing and Service Management in College of Design, Dept. of Game and Product Design in College of Design had both been approved to set up and enroll students.
August 2013 1. Approved to set up and enroll students in Graduate Institute of Service and Technology Management in College of Management, and Postgraduate School of Media & Games Design in College of Design. Moreover, Dept. of Computer & Communication Engineering had been renamed Dept. of Information and Network Communications and approved by the Ministry of Education.
2. There are four colleges, namely, Engineering, Management, Design, and Living Technology, with 18 departments and 9 graduate institutes in total, in the year 2013.
3. To fully realize CTU educational philosophy, Division of Three Strengths Development was set up under the President to be in charge of school management. Moreover, to increase international cooperation opportunities and to facilitate recruitment overseas, International Cooperation Center had been upgraded to Center of International Affairs. Furthermore, to promote domestic auditing system, office of Domestic Auditing was set up under the Office of the Secretary.
August 2014 Dept. of Industrial Engineering & Management was renamed Dept. of Industrial Engineering & Service Management.
August 2015 CTU 50th Anniversary
August 2016 Dept. of Media and Game Design was renamed Dept. of Creative Products and Games Design
